SODOM AND GOMORRAH COMES TO AMERICA
On June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court ruled that the U.S. Constitution provides same-gender couples the right to marry, a historic triumph to the American gay rights movement. However, the decision is surely a tragedy and detriment to humankind for all time to come, placing us at the Hand of Almighty God’s Wrath.
The court ruled 5-4 that the Constitution guarantees due process and equal protection under the law, mandating that states cannot ban same-gender marriages. With this ruling, gay marriage becomes legal in all 50 states.
The decision came in time for the subject to be addressed by eminent scholar and Imam El-Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Shah Gillani Hashmi in the Friday sermon that was telecast nationally to the Muslims of America’s (TMOA) congregations. El-Sheikh Gillani, speaking via Skype, addressed the decision as making it “the darkest day in human history.” He declared that this day was a black day in the history of mankind and that it was the day that humanity sunk to a level of debasement and shame. “We are now living in an era of total degradation and immorality with a disregard and rejection of the Divine Law of The Almighty, as clearly established in the Bible and Qur’an.” He resolved that every nation and religion on earth should remember this day and memorialize it every year as “Black Day.”
The consequence of this decision is that mankind is suffering due to the wrath of Allah. Al-Sheikh Gillani recounted the Qur'anic and biblical stories of peoples in the past whom Allah has vanquished due to their disobedience to Him and violations of the laws of righteousness and morality. History is our example. There is the story of Dawud (David), when the Jews were enjoined to uphold the Sabbath by leaving off work, but when fish would come only on the Sabbath, they chose to violate Divine Law and fished anyway. There were three groups in the particular town at this time. The first group was the violators. The next was a group that followed a pious Rabbi who stayed away from the violators, but did nothing to stop them and simply closed their doors saying,”We don’t want to get involved.” The last group was one of common people, who would confront and fight with the violators of the Sabbath, asking them, “Are you not afraid of Almighty Allah? He may send wrath upon you like He sent before you when they disobeyed.” Those who disobeyed and those who did not enjoin what was right received a severe punishment from Allah.
There are other stories to mention: that of Lut (Lot) and the people of Sodom and Gomorrah; the people of ‘Ad and Thamud; the people of Nuh (Noah); and the people with Pharaoh, who challenged the Power and Judgment of Almighty Allah. All these and more, due to their disobedience to Allah, were destroyed and wiped from the face of the earth.
Already, there are dividing lines among Americans, even within the Court itself, as the dissenters raised concerns about the impact of the case on people opposed to same-gender marriage on religious grounds. Although the ruling only affects state laws and religious institutions can still choose whether to marry same-gender couples, the prediction is that there will be future legal conflicts and cause for social strife. "Hard questions arise when people of faith exercise religion in ways that may be seen to conflict with the new right to same-[gender] marriage," said Chief Justice Roberts in his dissent from the bench. Also, in a blistering dissenting opinion, conservative Justice Antonin Scalia said the ruling "says that my ruler and the ruler of 320 million Americans coast-to-coast is a majority of the nine lawyers on the Supreme Court ... the decision shows the court is a "threat to American democracy."
Another dissenting voice is that of former Arkansas governor and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who stated, “The Supreme Court has spoken with a very divided voice on something only the Supreme Being can do - redefine marriage. I will not acquiesce to an imperial court any more than our Founders acquiesced to an imperial British monarch. We must resist and reject judicial tyranny, not retreat.”
The West is suffering at the hands of immoral and errant judges who think they have the right to change Divine Decree. However, we say here, to men and women of faith who believe in the One Almighty Creator: know that He is the Ruler and the final decision lies with Him.
In his message to his followers and to all believing people at large, Al-Sheikh Gillani cautioned them to “save your souls, save your lives.” He said, “We (the Godfearing) must all stand up and condemn this decision. Otherwise, we will suffer the same fate as those who came before us. These violators are going to suffer, let there be no doubt. These people were arrogant and haughty. This is the last nail in the coffin of so-called western society. Almighty God, Allah, will not forgive this. He will take revenge like He took revenge upon those who indulged in sinful relations and are now suffering from His wrath with AIDS, a Divine affliction that is not a disease.”
Al-Sheikh Gillani also said, “We must condemn these acts and declare a social boycott of all who do not stand against same-gender marriage, in an effort to save ourselves. We must stand up. Only then will we be saved.”
